I’ve owned the GTI less than 48 hours and I’ve put almost 300 miles on it going no place in particular. I just giggle the entire time I drive it.

It’s not super fast, but it’s quick enough to toss you back in your seat and take you past the speed limit very quickly. It also handles insanely well, I don’t know how much of that has to do with the Continental DWS 06 tires though. Not to mention it’s just a really nice place to be with a nice stereo, and tight but comfortable heated cloth (!) seats.

The only “downside” I’ve came across so far is that it takes premium fuel, and with how much better fuel economy I’m getting over the Silverado it’s a moot point.

Nice. Also don’t worry about the premium fuel. You get used to it pretty quick. It’s not some base economy car anyway.

The M3 took premium fuel so I’m kinda used to it. Going from a 13 mpg average to mid-to-high 20s I’m still probably spending less on fuel.

Congrats man, I don’t have much interest in owning for them, but boy do they look good.

What you’re feeling is probably the low sidewall. It really improves steering feel and on centre steering. Especially when you’re coming from a truck.

The tires are all season so I wouldn’t expect a ton from them.

I had MKV, loved every mile, all 114,000 or so when I moved on to a new car. One of the only cars I have had out of the 25 or so I would buy again. Not that the other cars were bad, but I like to try new things. The cars on that list are not even the same category. Wrangler, GTI, BMW 3 series and a pickup(Ram 3500, but that is more for work). I right now have the Used MK7 on my “it will be my next car list.” My list is pretty short and I am pretty sure it is the only vehicle I will purchase. Don’t fret about the premium fuel, when you work out the math, you are talking very minimal $/year difference. At 12,000 miles per year, and a $0.25 difference per gallon(Regular to Premium will vary by market), it only is ~$100-$125/year difference, so ~$10/month. I call it the smile factor. If it can make me smile and not miss the $10/month, it is worth the price of admission. I was driving 30k-50k per year, still totally worth it.

This is on my want list and I haven’t even driven one. Congrats!

Just curious, what was your first tank average?

I also have a Mk6 and average 25-26MPG with mostly city driving. on a long highway stint with cruise control set to 75 I averaged 37MPG. The ridiculous fuel economy despite it’s requirement for premium is a major reason why I can’t bring myself to part with it.
